Air Cooled Chillers Supplied for Singapore Data Center

Date:2026-09-23

Project Overview

Singapore's year-round tropical conditions place a constant cooling burden on data center infrastructure. With high ambient temperatures and humidity throughout the year, effective heat removal is essential for maintaining the operating environment required by continuously running IT equipment. Chilled water systems provide a practical approach for transferring heat away from critical areas and supporting dependable thermal management.

For this project, multiple air cooled chillers have been supplied to a data center in Singapore. Working as part of the facility's cooling water system, the chillers generate chilled water for heat removal while using ambient air for condenser-side heat rejection. This arrangement avoids the need for a dedicated cooling tower, offering a straightforward option for data center facilities where water infrastructure and equipment space require careful consideration.

Project Features

The supplied SA-300D2 chillers are configured to deliver chilled water at 7°C outlet temperature, with return water entering at 12°C. This temperature difference enables the units to absorb heat from the data center's cooling loop and continuously transfer it away from the IT environment.

Each chiller is equipped with a Hanbell compressor, providing the refrigeration capacity required for the specified operating conditions. The Siemens control system manages key operating parameters and supports coordinated equipment operation.

Unlike water-cooled systems that require condenser water and cooling tower infrastructure, these air-cooled chillers discharge rejected heat directly into the surrounding air. This makes the configuration suitable for data center projects where reducing water-side equipment and simplifying the overall cooling arrangement are part of the system design considerations.

With multiple chillers working within the same cooling infrastructure, the project can also provide a scalable cooling configuration that accommodates the thermal requirements of the data center.

Project Highlights

The Singapore installation demonstrates the application of air cooled chillers in a data center chilled water system under tropical climatic conditions. The 300 kW-per-unit configuration, 12°C/7°C chilled water temperatures, Siemens controls, and Hanbell compressors are selected according to the project's cooling requirements.

By combining air-side heat rejection with a chilled water cooling loop, the chiller arrangement provides a practical method for supporting data center thermal management while avoiding the additional cooling tower system required by conventional water-cooled chiller installations.
